A flexible, fast-playing set of miniatures rules. An army consists of 12 units (called "elements"), classified as Blades, Warband, Knights and so forth. The rules are very simple (and can actually fit on one sheet of paper) but nevertheless pretty effective. The Fantasy version is Hordes of the Things, and the De Bellis Multitudinis: Wargames Rules for Ancient and Medieval Battles.

For all the versions of De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) from version 1.0 published in 1990 to version 3.0 published by WRG Ltd in 2014, the aim of the rules has been the same, namely to provide the simplest possible set of rules that retain the feel and generalship of ancient wargaming. Each version of DBA up to 2.2 included the basic battle rules.

A typical army for DBA is only $30-$40. yes, you have to paint it but it is a miniatures games ;-). Many miniatures manufacturers make pre-bundled DBA minis kits. Cheap terrain can be made from felt (green for forests, etc.). Definitely one of the cheapest miniature games to get into, and loads of fun. Tip.
